What is Transcreation?
Transcreation is a term coined from the words translation and creation. It is the cultural adaptation and localization of (advertising) texts by taking into account the nuances and specificities of the cultural context. This means that the advertising message is not only translated, but also adapted to sensibilities of the target market and the target group. Ideally, the target audience should not be able to tell that they are reading a translated text. To achieve this, the translator needs to possess a high level of linguistic sensitivity and intercultural competence.
In the course of my translation studies, through various seminars and numerous travels to different continents around the globe, I have acquired comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of transcultural communication. This intercultural awareness serves me well in my work as a freelance translator. It allows me to translate the ‘intended message’ of my clients to their specific target audience in different parts of the world. I regularly craft transcreations for luxury resorts and one of the largest hotel chains in the world. Transcreations are also often necessary in the IT industry, particular with marketing texts. Lastly, I particularly excel at transcreation for fashion and lifestyle products – a great passion of mine. Through years of experience and learning, I have developed a rich vocabulary for both technical and aesthetic qualities and a real ‘feeling’ for translating beauty and luxury into words, providing my clients with ‘linguistic delights’ time and again.
